If you smell gas at the range, turn off the burners, shut the gas supply valve if you can reach it safely, and ventilate the room. Do not try to light it again until a technician has checked it. Then call, we treat this as same-day.

Breaker or gas valve
Electric ranges pull two hot legs, lose one and the cooktop works while the oven stays dead. Gas models need the shutoff valve fully open.
Burner ports clear
Grease and hard-water buildup clog gas burner ports over time. A flashlight and a look rules out the easy cause.
Door gasket seated
A gasket pinched or pulled loose leaks heat and makes the oven run longer to hit temperature.
Self-clean lockout
Some models refuse to start any cycle if the self-clean door lock is stuck mid-travel. Check it isn't jammed half-engaged.
